Poughkeepsie: Best NY style pizza I have had in years!

Napoli & Sicilia Pizzeria: 256 Hooker Ave Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. (845) 471-9213

The SECRET to good NY style pizza is how good "the sauce" is (strong, multiple seasonings- but in a greater amount than the amount of cheese) AND how the crust is made (thin & well baked on the outside with differing levels of toasted-coloring & tasty, BUT an absorbent doughy middle to absorb the oil from the cheese & sauce).

I didn't believe I would find a pizzeria in Poughkeepsie which would meet these HIGH criteria (I just moved here- growing up in Westchester- some of the BEST restaurants you can find outside of NYC makes me a tough critic), but Napoli REALLY satisfies these standards! Pizza is $1 per slice & well worth the price! Even the reheated slices were DELICIOUS!

The hours are fantastic for night birds. It's open EVERY day (except some holidays) from 11 am until (I was told) 2 am & sometimes even later (a local favorite catering to Vassar College students). I was told it's is closed for over a month during part of July & August.

I had one problem with Napoli & Sicilia's- FINDING the restaurant at night. The pizzeria is on the ground level of a white house without a noticeable sign in-front of the house (it does say Napoli on the house). The house is located between "Family Dollar" (on the East Side) and a shopping center (on the West Side) with parking in front of it and a sign for "One-Stop."

Table space and chairs are limited- though several were decorated for the holidays. Atmosphere is noisy but the family owned restaurant staff are nice, especially Mr. Napoli (whose Italian accent is so strong he can be a bit hard to understand).
