quite a while back annieb had mentioned the cactus and potato gordita at el gallo, next to drake bowl on montrose (~3550), I mistakenly ventured into a number of similarly named taquerias before this weekend finally hitting the one she had referenced.
I'm glad we did, the gordita was really quite good, though not of the puffy chewy Dona Lolis type, but rather almost sandwich of thick tortillas pressed around a filling. It was this pressing, combing the grease, cactus potato, cheese and spices into one whole that really did the trick on said gordita.
I also tried the al pastor, and like the crunchy bits of pork skin that annieb had mentioned, however it was a lttle wetter than I'd normally like, indicating it had been cut off the spit and then fired with some sauce and onions before going into the masa
horchata was similar to la quebrada's with vanilla dominanting over cinnamon
on a sunday afternoon at least, the place was doing quite good business with a number of mexican families, but thankfully a jukebox that was off.
