REGIONAL GASTRONOMIC WEEK FOR NOVEMBER
Executive Chef Francisco Rosa
Continues a Whirlwind Tour of Regional Cooking. November 17th to 22nd, 2003.
September it was the Algarve. The month of October featured the colorful and robust cuisine of Alentejo. This month, Alfama, fine Portuguese Cuisine presents the historic region of Estremadura.
Estremadura (meaning extremities) is a region highlighted by charming and beautiful towns as old as Portugal itself. The region also features natural contrasts. The Atlantic crashes upon the southern coast while the northern coast is calm and serene. East of the seascape are two inspiring mountain ranges. The region is neither extremely harsh nor especially remote. Rather, it is in many ways the spiritual heart of Portugal.
