So, I was out in Westbury, CT this past weekend, and a friend brought me to a new place, Porters Bar & Grill, right on Rt. 1.
First, let me start by saying that i'm usually very skeptical about a place that has changed hands, and under new management......but, i've been disenchanted w/ Bills next door too many times, and felt like having something new.
they did a great job renovating this place....very clean feel inside, and a welcome group of guys serving at the bar. they only had a limited menu as they just opened up on friday, but i did review the full menu and it looks good. onto the chow....
started w/ a 1/2 dozen shrimp cocktail that were fresh, and perfectly chilled. moved onto a plain hamburger, which i was told is made from black angus steak, and topped w/ some of the freshest mushrooms that i've had. delicious and well cooked. my friend had the linguini bolognese, which i was very skeptical of in a bar and grill type place. as i watched the chef prepare the sauce from scratch in the open kitchen, i had to order up a 1/2 order myself. wow! this was the real deal, fresh tomatos, more of that black angus ground beef, the perfect amount of garlic, and a few of those mushrooms made the dish perfect! with over 50 bottles of beer, 10 taps, a well chosen wine list, i think this place is a keeper. they have big plans for music, and outdoor seating, as well as claiming the hottest wings on the east coast. checked out the full menu which has a cajun redfish sandwich, and entree, as well as the signature "portershouse" steak......very reasonably priced. i think this is a much needed keeper!
