Went to Porridge King for brunch today. It was pretty busy at noon, but we only had to wait 3 mins for a table.
I had the fish congee (small) which was a very nice version. Large chunks of clean tasting white fish (I assume tilapia?) and slivers of ginger. DC had the pork and preserved egg congee which he liked too. We shared an order of fried donuts to dunk in the congee, and they were good. We also ordered some steamed shrimp rice noodle rolls. These came out topped w/ hoisin sauce and some chunks of peanut-butter...they were almost in a nugget form and were dark brown (at first I thought they were pork). It was strange, and we removed these peanut butter nuggets from the noodles (but not before I took a photo). The noodles were pretty meh, and we didn't bother finishing them. Could have easily made them better myself.
Total price for this meal was only $14, and we left feeling full. If we had only had 2 small congees and the donut order, it would have been a satisfying meal for only $5 each.
This place may not win awards for service, ambiance or food, but if all you want is a nice bowl of congee before a trip to Ranch 99, it's actually a pretty decent choice.
