My girlfriend, another L.A. native were reminiscing about old L.A. tearoom ladies lunches of our girlhoods on the way to the Fountain Court. We remembered Bullocks Wilshire, and the Bullocks in Sherman Oaks and simultaneously, we both sighed, "popovers". We arrived at the Fountain Court to discover that the very first item on the menu is POPOVERS! They take 20 minutes but are one of the few childhood comfort foods that actually tasted as good as I remember. The Fountain Court has yet another new menu and apparently a more ambitious chef. The food is a tad fussy and more expensive than in the past--figure ten to fifteen bucks for lunch but by all means, order the popovers.
