Polka Dot v. Buttercup for small wedding cake -- am I getting gouged??

We are having a very small wedding (26 people at a restaurant on the UWS) and, being at least a bit of a traditionalist, I wanted the presence of a small wedding cake in addition to dessert. Biggest qualification -- yummy cake. After researching the board, I decided to go for Polka Dot Cake Studio, who quoted me $79 for two small round yellow cakes stacked with buttercream frosting and raspberry preserves in the middle. At first I thought, okay, fine, I just want to get this task off my list and it's Manhattan pricing, then I started to think, gosh, that sounds really expensive. So I called Buttercup Bakery. They suggested a sheet cake and quoted $65. Sure, that's $14 less, but it's no longer a wedding-esque stacked cake and I've lost the raspberry filling. Now I find myself in a quandry when I wanted this to be one of the EASY things on my list. So here's my question -- are their prices through the roof or should I succumb to the fact that as soon as any vendor hears "wedding", there's a 30% premium? If they are through the roof, any suggestions on where I might get a better price for a simple, small, delicious cake? (I'd even go into the outer boroughs if they delivered.) If their prices are realistic, which place would you go with?

I'm leaving it in your hands, because I can't continue with this lament much longer, I've got to worry if the florist is sticking it to me now...
