Polish rye bread

My family is looking for our personal holy grail of Polish Rye bread. Many years ago on the South side of Chicago there were two Polish bakeries that made fantastic Polish Rye which our family defines as having a slight sour dough and an outside crust which is almost crackly in texture. One of the bakeries was Silks and the other was Wasilskis (not sure of the spelling). A close loaf used to be sold on Sunday mornings in Whiting Indiana but the bakery burned down. Can anybody give me some leads??
