Have I just had a slew of bad restaurant picks or are the restaurants really this bad?

I went to Poggio for lunch the other day. I was waiting for my associate for about 15 minutes- the hostess knew we needed a deuce from my reservation and when I checked in- so how come when she seats us it'a at a 4 top with 4 settings, where they have to unceremoniously have to remove 2 settings??? There are no excuses it wasn't busy at all. Myabe the food has something to do with why. My friend is on a funky diet - he wanted healthy low fat food- there was nothing on the menu so he asked if they could make pasta alio y olio -(don't even bother to ask how that dish is "healthy" i said it was a funky diet- they did and it was eeh. Although his salad was quite good one with beets and ricota salata, (the server didn't know if the ceasar contained egg, not a very informed staff). I had sole atop spinach with potatoes- drowning in butter sauce the fish just didn't have that sparkle - too much flour I think the spinach was good though but $20 good NOT. Beats my luch at Cat & Fiddle the next day where I was shocked by the prices - it's their dinner menu they do at lunch and why oh why do I let my friends pick the spot?
