The last is the best, and the most lasting.
A butter poached pear bears the texture right in the middle of buttery and sharp pear crispness. But it is the flavours that are most pleasing to the senses; beneath the nature perfume of pear and the light veil of vanilla is a most enchanting aura of spice (star anise and cinnamon iirc), subtle and sublime. Buttery caramel, gently tart cranberries make wonderful accompaniements.
Probably the best pear dessert I've had.
