i had dinner here for the wrong reasons-had read a lot about the 2 who started it-gavin newsome, a young s.f. politico, and one of the getty children(like getty oil). Took my son in law for HIS birthday and to satisfy MY curiousity-checked first with some CHOW HOUNDS-got one reply, saying its good but not glowing. We went there this PM, and were totally blown away-s.i.l. said it was among the best of his life-i have to concurr-appetizers of raw ahi were small but bursting with ahi flavor-crab cakes loaded with fresh crab, barely held together with a small amount of crust and filler: wife had a marvelous, light shrimp rizzoto, with a hint of cheese flavoring-I had duck-not really a duck person, but the waiter told us it has been the speciality of the house since the place opened-not a hint of grease or oil in the duck, one thigh stuffed with a spinich dressing-side of mashed or pureed sweet potato-wait-there's more-one of the deserts is a rhubarb tart, which comes out of the kitchen like the size of a small pie-rhubard was not too sweet, not too tart-a happy medium not easy to achieve with this fruit-wine was a magnificent- 2000 reserve cab.sauvignon from plump jack winery-folks who trip frequently to Napa valley will remember the Mt.Eden winery as a small producer of high quality cab-that is where plump jack now produces its wines(you can buy some at their wine shop a block away.
