had a very enjoyable dinner at Plouf last night for Thanksgiving. we had early reservations, 5:30, and by the time we left at 7:30 the place was packed. it was the only restaurant open in Belden Place, and a warm, bright beacon it was. Festive as always, we enjoyed moules Plouf - pastis, cream, shallots, roasted garlic chilis and fines herbes - heady with garlic, the pastis was very suble. we ordered extra frites (i think their frites might be my favorite in the City, now that Jeanty at Jacks is gone - perfectly salted and crispy) and bread to sop up the delicious sauce. i had two oysters on the half shell, and a tartare of buffalo was my entree. the ruby red meat was very fresh and light after the richness of the moules. my dad had the roasted turkey breast and confit leg, mushroom sage gravy and stuffing and cranberry sauce, that breast was the most tender and juicy turkey breast ever. my sister had pacific sea bass with braised leek potato purée, pole beans, and chanterelle mushrooms - the fish was moist and tender and buttery - the best thing of the evening, to me. her gf had french onion soup which i didn't try, and truffle oil mac-n-cheese, which i did - good, tho it lacked a bit more cheese and wasn't as trufflle-y as i would have liked, but it suited her fine. prices were jacked up for thxgiving, as expected, but all well worth it. Service was a tad spotty (had to ask for bread three times, they forgot my sweetbreads salad, so we asked them to not bring it and take it off the bill) but it was to be expected with all the big parties. we forgave.

It had been years since I'd been to Plouf, when I used to be a regular there. I need to put it back in the regular rotation.
