The weekend before Election Day, I figured I should provision myself to hunker down for a week or so in case there was social unrest ahead. I bought fresh ingredients to cook at home, got cash, and topped off my gas tank. And I decided to try PizzaLeah, figuring that leftover pan pizza would be an excellent convenience food to have on hand.
While it does offer round, thin crust pies, I had my heart set on the award-winnning Mush-a-roni pan pizza, $28: Red sauce, pepperoni, cremini mushrooms, shaved parmesan & fresh basil. I had one palate-scorching slice fresh from the oven at an outdoor table before closing the box and taking the rest home. The light and airy texture of the well-developed crust was the most notable feature with a delicate crispness that reminded me of the late Pauline's in San Francisco. I liked that it was baked a little darker than the usual California blonde. Fresh-tasting tomato sauce and just the right balance of high quality toppings made this a winner.
And, yes, the leftovers re-heated to almost the same perfection. Though it turned out that I was not confined to home at that time, as we face another potential lockdown, I'd recommend getting one of these pies to have on hand.
