The Pit

We just got back from The Pit (5309 S. Vermont Ave.) and we gotta say it's the best bbq we've had in L.A. We tried the pork shoulder, chicken (with hot bbq sauce), pork ribs, and sliced beef (with mild sauce). Everything was great. The meat on the ribs came off nicely and it had a nice balance of char, meat, and a little bit of fat. The pork shoulder was really solid, little tips of meat, again with a nice char/fat/lean meat ratio. The potato salad and beans were okay. i think it's always a good sign when they serve you plain white bread with q (like they do at arthur bryant's in kc). the guy running the place was really nice, too. we found out about this place from the "Hungry?" guide. We love q, a hard to find commodity in LA, and this place didn't let us down!
We will be back for sure.
