Pillin Thai in Tysons

Chris in Vienna | Apr 1, 2005 06:03 PM

Just got take out from Pillin Thai on 7 in the plaza with Staples and Tower Records.

We've had lousy thai at a couple of local places, and bad delivery service from Natta Thai who will never get my business again.

Pillin is very, very good. We got the Som Tum (papaya salad) which was very good and very spicy. The dried shrimp were an unexpected treat in there.

Wontons and spring rolls were very densely filled and flavorful.

We ordered some chicken with peppers and thai basil which was a little oily, but very tasty.

ANd then the green curry. I told her to make it spicy like she would make it for thai guests and she beamed a big smile then shouted something behind her. The guy did a double take of me said something back to her, she argued with him and then told me that they always tell her that Americans don't like it that hot. Well, it wasn't OMG TIFH, hot, but it was very spicy and had a lot more flavors than the usual afterthought that a lot of places call green curry.

A few weeks ago I made the curry paste from scratch and really had an wake up call on what I had been eating before.

I'm looking forward to trying other items on their menu. Also, I do need to try out Paya Thai, but IIRC, they had a scary health inpsection report (and I'm kind of forgiving of most things in these reports).
