Piggy's on Front

It isn't often that I am suprised by a restaurant, but Piggy's did suprise me.

Having heard lots of negative words about this place from prior visitors, I had a lot of misgivings going into Piggy's. Never have I been lead more wrong. The food and service were superlative.

The place was packed when we arrived, several large groups were there, along with some aniversary couples and lots of kids. At first the noise level was high, but after the groups settled in the level fell and was quite tolerable. The sunset made my seat uncomfortable for a while but the attentive staff, rotated the blinds and it was very nice. Overall the environment is very confortable.

The food was simply terrific, I had a steak, my wife a smoked prime rib, our friends had smoked ribs and walleye. The steak I had was a blue cheese topped New York strip, the taste was superb. The prime rib was delicately smoked and very tender. The smoked ribs were tender and chewy, our server warned us they don't fall off the bone. The walleye was pan fried and finished in the oven, it lacked flavor, perhaps it is a sign we can all adhere to, don't order seafood in a place known for red meat. All of them but the walleye was perfectly prepared and cooked.

The deserts we had were delicous as well, a variety of cheesecakes. Served with seasonal berries and cream sauces it was a devine desert. Save room!

Overall I was very impressed and would easily rate this as one of the best 3 or 5 restaurants in La Crosse, WI.

If your in town give it a try!!
