I remember a post a few weeks ago about the new Just Pickles location. I walked by the store on Saturday on my way to breakfast. Its located on E28th St., just east of 5th Ave.
On Sunday, I called the store at 6:15 to see if it was still open, the owner said they were getting ready to close up but being I live in the area, he offered to stay open so I could stop by. Taking his offer, I stopped by. This time, being it wasn't breakfast I was salivating at all the choices. Sours, Half Sours, Dills, cornichons, etc. I bought a quart and mixed it mostly with Hot and Spicy Sours and Hot and Spicy Half sours and a few sour pickles. I got maybe 10 huge pickles for $5. I went home and ate 3 pickles right away. They are fantastic. I've never had hot and spicy pickles before, but I'm hooked now. They have such a great pickle flavor with an underlying heat to them. Not outright spicy like buffalo wings, but a truly complementary taste to the tart sourness of the pickles. I'm afraid the taste of the Hot and Spicy pickles might have ruined regular pickles for me.
The owner told me the store has been open for a few weeks. Very nice man, and I'm still in shock he offered to stay open just for me, that was a first. He'll be getting a lot of business from me, esp. with my girlfriend being a pickle fiend, and my newfound love for hot and spicy pickles.... Next time I think i'm sticking to the hot and spicy sours, they were smaller pickles but a had a deeper flavor and deeper spice to them.
They also had pickled vegetables, cabbage, peppers, olives, and other things too.
