Mary Elaine's, for 20 years the Valley's showcase luxury fine-dining temple, is closing. The last meal will be served April 5.
Rumors about the demise of the Phoenician's high-profile restaurant have been cropping up for almost two years, ever since the resort's parent company entered into a partnership with superstar chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
On Monday, the Phoenician confirmed that a Vongerichten restaurant will replace Mary Elaine's. It's not known whether it will be a branch of an existing restaurant or a new concept. advertisement
Vongerichten's empire encompasses 17 restaurants that span the globe. His flagship restaurant, Jean Georges, is in New York City.
Questions about Mary Elaine's staying power increased after the resignation of James Beard Award-winning chef Bradford Thompson in March.
