Went to Pho Lynn today on Misterie's recommendation - we loved it! They were super friendly (and we had 4 kids under 5 with us) and the food was delicious. Loved the sausage Banh Mi (Vietnamese sub), also the spring rolls -yum! I had Pho with all kinds of crazy meats, my husband had Bun with barbecued pork, our friends had pho with meatballs. All excellent and cheap. Really lots of flavor. The cook, the owner's mother, came out to chat with us and was so sweet. There were people there, but it was not crowded - definitely no wait for a table.
Last weekend it was Shangri-La on Belmont Ave. in Watertown for their Taiwanese/Shanghainese dim sum. Also delicious and so unusual. We had their Chinese roast beef sandwich - some kind of tendon-y beef but very tender with scallions in a flaky sesame bun - and loved the thousand year old egg on tofu. That was a little alarming to look at - black hardboiled type egg in a brown jelly on top of raw tofu - but it was soooo good. Everything else - soup dumplings, noodle soup etc. was good too (the dumplings were a little lukewarm but still tasty), and it was fun to go to dim sum and get completely different stuff from the usual. They don't have carts, you have to order off the menu, and you should get there either at 11:30 or after 12:30 - guess it gets crowded in between there. The dim sum is only on the weekends.
