Managed to hit Pho 88 in Beltsville (on Baltimore and Montgomery, right off Rhode Island) and boy what a treat! It was the best bowl of Pho I have had, hands down.
Broth was piping hot, salty, beefy, rich, and with a perfect sense of star anise. It was slightly cloudy, which I believe is the way it should be from a long, long boiling of the bones and the onions (the onions disintegrate). This broth was so flavorful on its own that I didn't want to adulterate it with Sriracha and Hoisin. First broth ever that I didn't need to jazz up in this manner.
They also give you a VERY hefty serving of meat. I think it's about 3-4 times the amount of meat I get at Miss Saigon in Glen Burnie, and about 1.5 times the meat I get at Pho 75 in Arlington. We got rare eye round, and got a huge mound of raw meat to dunk into our broth.
A very generous plate of the traditional sides was also served: several lime wedges (about 2 per bowl of pho), Thai basil, and lots and lots of bean sprouts. In addition to Sriracha and Hoisin at the table, they had chili sauce and soy.
They also have myriad bubble teas and tea smoothies that you can order with the boba. What a fantastic dessert/finish to a salty, spicy, hot bowl of pho.
The larges come to about $7 with tax, and smalls I think are a dollar less. They also have fried rice dishes for non-Pho eaters.
Service was very smooth, efficient, and friendly. I will definitely be back! Right now it's rotated to the #1 spot on my Pho joint list. It blows the other Pho joints I've been to away.
