[pgh] Tamarind review

Went with a group of friends last week to Tamarind Savoring India, a new South Indian restaurant in Scott Towne Centre on Greentree Rd. I ordered dhai vada (fried lentil donuts in a yoghurt sauce) and a Madurai dosa filled with a slightly sweet coriander and tamarind chutney. Both dishes were very good and the portions were generous but not overwhelming. The dosa was crisp and notably less greasy than ones had elsewhere.

My companions ordered mostly northern-style dishes (palak paneer, tandoori mixed grill, rogan josh, some sort of vindaloo dish), and reactions were positive but not super enthusiastic. I tasted the rogan josh and found the seasoning balance to be somewhat uneven. The person who ordered it had requested "not at all spicy" and still found it too hot, so those who are especially sensitive to spicy food might wish to avoid this place.

The ambience is pleasant and the staff were friendly and happy to answer questions about the menu. In reading the menu I found several items that are difficult to find, so Tamarind will definitely be getting repeat business from me.
