Petits Plats

Had lunch at Petits Plats today for the first time. It's clearly my favorite restaurant in Woodley Park, and I've tried most.

I had the corn, shittake, and scallop soup. Though simple, it was very good, and the scallops were noticeably very fresh. This was delightful was some freshly ground black pepper.

My main course was the monkfish in a garlic and chive sauce with potatoes au gratin. Not unforgettable, but very good. I was surprised by the large portions--it seems that other dishes had smaller portions. Definitely worth the $15.

Dessert was tarte tatin. This is the first time I've had tarte tatin, so it's hard to fairly evaluate this staple of French desserts. Still, it seemed very well done. The portion was huge too.

Petits Plats is a bit pricey, but it's also a huge step above places like Medaterra, Lebanese Taverna, Jandara, and Mr. Chen's. Of course, I'd say Chipotle is a step above those places, but that's for another thread.
