Overall - great food and service that started out strong and ended weak.
BF had tortilla soup (wonderful spice, smooth), I had butternut squash & chestnut ravioli in duck consomme (divine). Split a ceaser salad - fine.
Entrees - BF had tenderloin, perfectly cooked, with crispy onions that I kept stealing from his plate. I had crabcakes - rivaled my favorite ones at Striper Bites in Lewes, DE (my gold standard for crabcakes - but I'm going to Jerry's this week so we'll see if that stands!) Mashed potatoes had bacon fat in them - oh so good. And very generous entree portions - took 1/2 my meal home.
Then the service . . . which was fine until we ordered dessert. I had given the restaurant notice that it was BF's bday dinner. Waiter takes order (roasted apple tart for him, cranberry risotto custard for me), then comes back when BF is away to say they're out of his dessert. BF disappointed, but doesn't like the other choices. Manager then comes back with bowl of mocha ice cream for BF with candle. Nice touch - ice cream was good but not the flavor he would have picked. My dessert takes a while to arrive - gets there when BF is almost done with his three scoops - and mine has a candle in it. NOT my birthday - seems like they weren't communicating.
And then the waiter disappeared. He had a five-top that got a fair amount of attention - fair enough. So BF gets up to ask for the check, I get the check, and the unavailable apple tart was still on the check. Waited for waiter while he poured the 5-top's wine, he apologized but then had to get the manager to get the apple tart off the check. That took a while so we got our coats.
The waiter did apologize again but he could tell I was disappointed with the way the meal ended.
So some great food in a very nice setting and I think the service would be just fine in the future if you're not competing with a larger party.
