Perla for brunch

We finally made it to Perla yesterday. Although we always wanted to try Perla, it was never really on our radar. Then the other day my husband noticed they were open for brunch. We checked out the menu online and saw that although there were the ubiquitous egg-and-pancake type of brunch offerings (which we do not like) the antipasti and primi selections were directly from their lunch and dinner menus. That sealed the deal so we decided to go try it.
I'm happy to report we had a solid experience. I had the veal breast and sweetbreads antipasto while my husband had the grilled octopus. The veal dish had a tonnato sauce which was perfect and the octopus was done with an eggplant and tomato sauce, which was very nice. For primi we both had pasta. I had the maltagliati with braised pork shoulder, mixed beans and escarole. A nice hardy dish for a cold afternoon yesterday. It was excellent. My husband chose the black ink spaghetti with nduja, calamari, tomato and breadcrumbs. While not my kind of dish to begin with, what I tasted of it was quite nice. He loved it. We chose to sit at the bar (not the chef's counter, but the drinks bar) and our bartender/wait person was quite personable. What i noticed of the table service was quite relaxed; people seemed to be enjoying themselves, though the dining room was only about half full at the most while we were there (approximately 1-3pm).
We fully intend on going again soon and hope to include Perla in our regular rotation of Sunday lunch restaurants.
