Perfection at Sierra Mar/Big Sur

Well, this place certainly is amazing. The dining room is just gorgeous, with tall glass windows and beautiful views. The decor is also beautiful and very tastefully done.

We had a 5:30 reservation and were asked to sit out on the deck for awhile until the "finishing touches" were done. Wiping down the wine glasses, setting everything up so it would be perfect, which it was.

We chose a nice little booth near the front, so we could see everything. We both chose the four course prix fixe menu for $78/pp. We were celetrating a 50th birthday, so this was a splurge.

For our first course I chose the Ahi Una Carpaccio with Quail Egg One-eyed Susan and Gribiche which was beautiuflly presented and excellent. My DH chose the Heirloom Tomatoes with Basil Pesto, Buffalo Mozzarella and Pinenuts. Had a couple of tastes of this, and it was great.

Our second course I chose the Salad of Arugula, Grilled Figs, Fourme D'Ambert, Spiced Pecans and Port Vinaigrette. Again, perfection. My DH chose the Curried Mussel Soup which I tasted and enjoyed very much.

For the third course I chose the Bronzed Local Salmon with CousCous, Cucumber Threads and Dill Vinaigrette, simple outstanding. Nothing like it, ever!!! My DH had the Roast Filet of Beef with Choron Sabayon, Gruyee Potato Gratin and Red Wine Syrup which he loved. Savored every bite, again perfection on a plate.

For our fourth and final course, I chose the Lemon Chiboust with Raspbery Sorbet, very good. And my Dh chose the Chocolate Souffle Cake with Cocao Nib Ice Cream. A perfect way to end the meal.

Some Apres Dessert was also presented. Very nice touch to end the meal. This was an awesome dining experience, I would recommend Sierra Mar to anyone celebrating a special occasion.

You can also order Ala Carte if you so desire. We shared a glass of very nice Pinot Noir from the area, since we had a three hour drive home.

This was probably the most outstanding experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The Sierra Mar is not to be missed for anyone in the Big Sur area. Bon appetit! ***kim***
