Looking for good pizza by the slice in Queens? I know it's hard to discern from the myriad of bleak storefront pie shops, but I would recommend Pepino's on 61st Street off Roosevelt in Woodside. I didn't do an extensive taste test of all their slices but have to say that the plain cheese slice and sicilian square slice are definitely winning. On face value, it's hard to tell what makes a good slice (they do all look the same.) But Pepino's tangy sause and flavorful, molten cheese with a crisp crust attached, were top-notch. After two slices at these places I usually stop from taste-bud boredom. Not here. After reloading on Fanta root beer, I went back for a couple more and was happy I did. Something about rolling that soft dough and that blend of sweet sause and cheese around my mouth was incredibly satisfying. Does anyone know anything about this place? I heard about it by word of mouth. Any other Queens slice recommendations out there?
