As most of you know, Penzeys Spices is an extraordinary chowhound resource. They carry a wide variety of spices from around the world, in good shape and at reasonable prices. But the shipping can kill you if all you need is some of their ground Vietnamese cinnamon, so deliciously potent that even a sniff fills your mouth with the taste.
Penzeys is running a contest to decide where to place a new store. The metro area which sends the most postcards begging for one will get one. A few months ago I solicited your help in making sure that we would get a Penzeys. Many of you let me know your postcards had been sent. In April, I posted reporting that the DC area was in the top 20 contenders.
The latest catalog has arrived and we are now in the top 14. We have until July 31 to beat those undeserving food slackers in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Detroit/Ann Arbor, Louisville, NYC, Omaha, Phoenix, Portland, and Seattle. Their web page claims to update the top 20 weekly and ***Baltimore is also on the list!***
It's time to spread the word to our friends, neighbors, and co-workers. The link to the contest rules is below.
If you have ever received any benefit from reading this board, now is the time to give a little payback to the chowhounds of the Baltimore-DC metroplex who have shared their culinary experiences, good and bad. Help us get a Penzeys. No more stale spices.
Oh, and there was a hint in the catalog that there may be some small spiff, like a gift certificate for a few dollars, for all participants.
