Penang in Flushing

Alan Divack | Sep 16, 1999 10:12 AM

We finally went to Penang in Flushing a few weeks ago,
and while we had a good meal, we saw now reason why it
should be preferred to Nyonya. Admittedly,we did not
have the legendary sting ray. The group was kid-heavy,
so we concentrated on the sate-roti axis. The sate was
good, but we liked Nyonya's sauce better. The chow fun
was good (wanted mee siam but didn't see them), as was
the roti and sauce. The biggest dissapointment was the
chicken in the Hainam chicken rice. While the rice was
nice -- a bit crusty and lightly perfumed with
spices-- the chicken was sort of just boiled, and not
the magical mythical bird that we have come to expect
at Nyonya.
