I first ate in this restaurant when I'm 6 years old, over 4 decades ago. I'm just back in Georgetown, Penang, today - and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that this restaurant is STILL around! Anyway, Dawood has been serving Indian-Muslim food the 1940s.
My lunch today was a chicken briyani - the rice was light, fluffy, tinged yellow with saffron, and fragrant with cloves, cardamom & cinnamon stick. The chicken was cooked till fall-off-the-bone tender, and a simple small side-dish of tomato-brinjal-dhal-chicken curry was served with the briyani rice, a perfect accompaniment.
The meal (with a lassi drink) costed me RM9.50 (USD2.50). The taste of nostalgia which was served to me - priceless!
