Peaceful in Napa

Melanie Wong | Sep 17, 200109:37 PM

Lunch today was a take-out falafel platter from Small World on Coombs in downtown Napa. These crunchy fried falafel pieces, rather than being spherical balls, look more like pieces cut off a cylinder. Never noticed that before in my usual pita sandwiches. Still the best I've had this side of Tel Aviv (link below).

Owned by an Arab from Haifa, they said that business is fine and there's been no trouble. There was a small scuffle on Wednesday but that seems to have been shoplifting and not motivated by bigotry. Small World was one of the local restaurants that donated meals to feed the blood bank staff last week. I'm glad they haven't been hurt by anti-Arab backlash.
