Went to the Beaverton Farmer's Market for the first time this season. It was a bit rainy, but there was still a good turnout. Below are some of the highlights. You can also see more highlights on my site at the link below, plus nearly 60 pics.
* Trufflezone Mushrooms: Gorgeous, plump morels for $16/lb, monstrous, halved porcinis for $20/lb, and beautiful, pungent Oregon White Truffles for $7/oz -- I really regretted not having hit the ATM before arriving at the market once I saw the fungus options.
* Another interesting, though less luxurious, choice of fungi came from the certified organic vendor, Rain Forest Mushrooms. I'd never seen the lion's mane before. They also had maitake and shitake.
* My favorite food vendor from the market last year, the canby salsa booth, is there again making their aspargus tamales, fresh tortillas, and fried asparagus and zuchinni. They were also griddling some mixture of meat and vegetables that looked delicious.
* Samish Bay Cheese from Northern Washington makes cow milk cheese including a variety of goudas and a cheddar. This was my first time tasting their cheeses, but they're very promising. They had run out of the 12 month aged gouda, which I was most eager to test.
* Several small Asian families selling small selections of Asian produce, including a variety of choys, garlic and onion spears, and herbs.
* The Beaverton Farmer's Market outshines the Portland Farmer's Market in the nursery choices. There are many more flowers, herbs, and garden plants. Among them is the '70s retro-plant, the Venus Flytrap, sold at the Carnivorous Plants tent.
