Had dinner at Mingo in Beaverton on Saturday. It was a very nice meal as usual. We were served bread, a few olives and olive oil as we sat down (Bread from Grand Central Bakery). Oil had a very nice olive flavor, not bland at all. My wife had the Caprese salad: sliced tomato and fresh mozzarella sprinkled with basil and olive oil ($8). Both the tomato and the cheese were very nice. She followed with a Carciofo pizza: marinated artichokes, black olives, red oinion and goat cheese. The pizza crust was very thin yet not overly crisp. I liked at as much if not better than the one at Scholl's Public House. Veggies had a good flavor, especially with the goat cheese. The leftovers were also good for breakfast this morning. I had the Penne al Sugo di Carne: penne pasta with beef braised in Chianti and expresso ($16 - half portion available at $8). I've had this before and really like the pot roast and pasta combination. No leftovers for me.

For a wine we split a bottle of Podere Il Palazzino, Chianti Classico Argenina 2001 ($28). It started a little harsh but opened up nicely after sitting for a few minutes and turned out to go great with our dinner. They do have 7-8 each reds and whites available by the glass (most around $7) and their wine list is mostly Italian with some California and Northwest wines.

We finished up with a Chocolate Torte ($6) and a Capuccino ($3). All in all a very pleasant dinner. Service was attentive and unobtrusive even though the place filled up about half way through our meal. It was good to see a number of families there with well behaved kids under 10.

We arrived around 6:30 and were seated right away. The place filled up by 7 or so but I never saw a party wait more than 10 minutes for a table. The funny thing is that we had started out the evening headed to the Olive Garden in Beaverton Town Center. When we walked in to the Olive Garden at 6:15, they said there would be an 1:15 wait. We left and fifteen minutes later we were starting our dinner at Mingo about 3 blocks away.
