Thanx, PDX 'Hounds! (long-ish)

I just spent my week in PDX, and, thanx to all PDX Chowhound - I was certainly never bored!

Apizza Scholls - just amazing, one of the best pizzas (of that style) on the whole west coast. Decent service, too.

Wildwood - got my $10, $13 "Bistro Burger" and was suitably impressed; I was dying to try the similar item at Cafe Castagna, but...never got there when they were serving lunch.

Siam Society - I'd probably have enjoyed my meal more there if I'd ordered better (it was too bloody hot outside!), I noticed (and tried) the Mr. Extramsg-menu-recommended Cardamon ice cream...amusing! (FYI, decent service, more expensive than Wildwood, but not completely comparable!)

Numerous sources recommended different Mexican food places to me to try in Portland...Cha Cha Cha, Taqueria Nueva, some places on Alberta St., a place in Vancouver, WA called "Muchas Gracias"... people from L.A. are invariably never happy with Mexican food served more than 100 miles from the Mexican border!

Hadn't planned on eating there, but was at the right place at the right time: Indian buffet lunch @ "Swagat" on NW 21st St. - certainly the right price!

Also enjoyed "No Fish Go Fish" - hey, it was 100 degrees F and that cold soup was really refreshing!

Finally, I had bar food all over town - McPubs, Laurelwood and others, all decent. The super high marks for PDX (for me) come with the ease of being able to get some truly decent espresso - Extracto, Anna Bananas, Terazza Rosso (cnr NE 33rd/Killingsworth), Chance of Rain...

So, thanks for the small mountain of PDX chow chat, easily understood and acted upon by a visiting L.A. 'hound.
