PDX - Curry Leaf: Recommended Indian Restaurant

aristo | Mar 24, 200402:18 AM     1

Following an earlier mention at Chowhound I went to check out this relatively new Indian place in Bethany (503-645-6113. 15325 NW Central Drive. At the back side of Bethany Village, in the suburbia north of Beaverton)

If you are in the area, check them out for sure, but they also deserve a ride from afar.

The server (seems to be the "she-owner") was friendly and very accomodating, many notches above the Swagat type service. The menu is large and interesting, with many non-standard dishes. Tonight I tried:

S4 Hyderabadi Tangdi Kabab: Chicken drumettes marinated in a special ginger sauce. Probably the best drumettes I ever had.

S7 Gobi Manchuriab bites: Crisp bites of Cauliflower (or chicken; I had the Cauliflower) Terrific, crunchy, with a chinese influence in the spicing.

E52 Butter chicken: similar to Chicken Tiki Masala. Good, but much like the standard dish in other places

S18 Tandori Roti: I liked having this "healthier" yet still very tasty whole wheat version of Naan. (The owner claims the Garlic Naan is better.)

S16 Cucumber salad. Simple, yet refreshing.

Kulfi: homemade mango ice cream.

Chai.

I had enough food for two persons (family is out of town), yet the bill was only $24 + tip

Of all the Indian places I have been to in town, only Plainfield Mayur compares in quality, but when you add the price consideration, there is no comparison.

Highly recommended!
