Went to the opening of the Beaverton Farmers Market this last weekend. Very enjoyable time. My full report with more pictures is linked below.
White Rhino, a marimba band, was entertaining the crowd. Kids were playing on the playground and running around the fountain.
There was a huge line at Fetzer's for sausage. Huge. Another big line for the deep-fried asparagus, zucchini and onion rings at Canby Asparagus. They make tortillas to order there. (I always get some fried asparagus when I go.)
Produce was a little disappointing. Most of the vendors were the big vendors that you see at all the farmers markets. I expect this will improve throughout the season.
A couple nice fish vendors selling lingcod, salmon, and sole.
A new vendor that I hadn't seen before was Ruby Jewel, who makes very tasty ice cream sandwiches.
The biggest number of vendors were probably nurseries. I'm too busy to do anything with my tiny yard, but they seem to make a good fit with a suburban farmers market.
