Headed to Paya Thai last night and found the windows papered over, and a new sign "China Palace" or something like that across the front of the shop. Too bad - Paya Thai seemed to be one of the more positively reviewed Thai restaurants in this corner of NoVA. I can't say that the food has gone downhill recently, but in the past several months, they've tried expanding the menu with banquet-like fairly expensive meals, and I've never seen them very crowded. A sign of a downhill slide, for sure. Guess they never found the right formula.
Went to Busara instead. I've always thought that was a prettier place than Paya, but that the food was never quite as good. Both are still true, in my experience. No "good wok char" on the drunken noodles, which seems to be the Chowhound measure of a good execution of the dish.
