I found out that Casa Mexico was gone by reading the posting about the new restaurant Tamarind Bay and the description that it was across from Pinnochio's. My husband and I feared that this meant that our beloved Casa Mexico was gone, and, alas, this is the case. Please anybody who knows- tell me it was a case of retirement! They were there since 1967 and were not simply resting on their laurels- well they were, but they were good laurels!- please don't tell me it closed because their food wasn't new and flashy. Their mole was among the best I've ever tasted, and their gaucomole, their sangria, margaritas- and geez, I never even got to try their mexican kiss drink- fresh strawberries and tequila in some type of delightful witches brew I'm sure! Their mexican coffee, either hot or cold with cinnamon in it. Very good flan, the cheese and sausage melt in ones mouth appetizer. Oh, yes, and best of all, and perhaps most unique, very peppery and slightly dry refried beans made with pintos or kidneys, as I think all refried beans should be. With a slight bacon or pork twinge- this type of refried beans has been described to us, and also in Diane Kennedy's cookbooks as festive, for company beans i.e. not everyday beans.
