We are heading back for our fourth trip to Paris and our third visit to the Salon d'Agriculture this February. We are staying in the 6th and renting an apartment so we can stay in some nights and cook and relax. We love to go to a market and buy a rabbit or some duck or something else hard to get fresh where we live and cook a meal at 'home'.
First, I would like to visit a market outside of the arrondissment we are staying in. I've seen Raspail and the local markets. How about something in the 10th, 11th or a similar district? Aligre? Bastille? Days of the week are flexible. Just want another fairly large market to visit maybe one with an interesting neighborhood to wander around afterwards. Also, maybe somewhere with a nice Chowhound-worthy lunch spot nearby?
Second, I need help figuring out how far in advance we need to make reservations at a few restaurants. These are new to us and we aren't sure how popular they are right now.
Finally, would Restaurant AG be a good spot for a birthday celebratory meal? Paris is my choice for a very 'significant' birthday vacation. We aren't into Michelin stars or really formal dining. We like good food, good wine, and a nice atmosphere. Just somewhere we can relax and feel welcome while we celebrate but we know enough to dress decently for dinner and to dine at regular local times.
Thanks in advance for your help!
