i moved here a couple of years ago from cambridge, ma. in harvard square, there is a restaurant called bombay club, which has some south indian cuisine. one of the most wonderful things it had were these little poofy things, which you used your knuckle to make a hole in, then added a concoction of fava beans and this cold watery-vinegary(?) sauce. if one successfully made a hole in the top of the poofy thing without cracking it, the poofy thing would retain the liquid and was absolutely delicious. an indian friend of mine said this was panny purri, but i have no idea how to spell it. he described eating it as a cold road-side snack in the summer in madras (or chennai if you prefer).
my question is, is there anywhere in manhattan where one can get this?
