Finally got to Pann’s on Saturday. Arrived around 3:15-ish to a nearly empty restaurant. I timed it this way hoping that I would not have to wait.
Was seated and noticed that February is there Crawdad Festival. They were offering gumbo amongst other items – but I was there for the country fried steak.
I placed my order – iced tea, green salad with ranch and a side of buffalo wing sauce, country fried steak w/mashed potatoes, corn bread and fruit.
While I was waiting it gave me an opportunity to look around the place. First, you gotta love the loud 50’s music that they were playing. Reminded me of my childhood hanging out with my dad. I could not help singing along (most of the people in there were singing along or at least bobbing their heads to the tunes). Pictures of some celebs on the wall and some pictures from old movies that I believe were filmed there. Comfy booths and a long counter which you could sit at, as well as an outside patio.
Salad and Iced Tea came. Regular salad (greens, shredded carrot, croutons), good iced tea. I liked that every time they refilled the tea, they added another lemon slice.
The waiter (Jay, I believe) was very good and attentive. Sweet and called me “hon”.
Then came the country fried steak. It was pretty darn good, although I think I still prefer Chili’s version. Thinly pounded and breaded. Had a good white gravy all over (made better with a sprinkling of salt, pepper and Tabasco). The mashed potatoes were good, some lumps, like I like it. That too, was smothered in gravy – yum! Fruit was 3 red grapes and a few slices of honeydew.
Cornbread muffin was good, especially with the butter and honey.
After I finished everything except some of the potatoes and honeydew, I ordered, although I was stuffed, the Bread Pudding. This was cinnamon raisin bread baked and then topped with caramel sauce and whipped cream. It was very good, basic, but I could only eat a little of it since I was so full.
I would definitely go back. Atmosphere was great as well as the service. Food was normal coffee shop food up a notch. Total was $19.99 including tax and tip.
