During the fall, I got a hankering for apple cider donuts and found Pane di Vero through a partnership with Chileno Valley Ranch (halfway between Petaluma and Tomales Bay). I was thoroughly impressed by her 30% whole wheat organic apple cider donuts. The crumb was heartier than a normal yeasted donut, but it was still well risen, and they were fried perfectly and glazed with a beautiful sweet and tart and fragrant apple glaze. Held over well to the next day, too!
Turns out it's one woman baking from home twice per week. She delivers in Sonoma, Marin, and SF counties ($25 minimum for delivery), or you can pick up in Petaluma.
We've since tried the levain (good, but too much whole wheat for us at 40%), focaccia (tasty, also slightly heavier than my personal taste, but still absolutely demolished), and her bavarian pretzels (fabulous!!!!).
She sources locally and takes great care in her baking. Highly recommended.
