I've been craving a Brazilian dish called moqueca lately. It calls for palm oil which, after a lengthy search in the markets in my town (Toronto), I found. The bottle says it's unrefined. I've not used this before, so I'm not sure what the taste of the raw product should be. I sampled the jar when I got it home and found it to be incredibly bitter - not like what I perceive a food taste to be. But I thought that about cilantro the first time I ate too, but I digress...
Does anyone have experience using this ingredient? I don't want to waste my food if I've bought a rancid bottle, or the wrong type!
