Palena- good food, horrible service

MOM's boy | Jul 9, 2005 07:33 PM

I went to Palena last night for the first time... the back room. The food was very good, but not great. The service was horrible, just horrible...

We had a reservation for 5 people and our table was 2 tables for 2 pushed together with a plate on the end of one, so basically 3 people in our party were eating at a small table for 2. I did request that they give us another 2 seater and they said they couldn't, but they did say that they made a mistake and that they could replace one of the smaller tables for a slightly larger table for 2. Still a bit disapointed that we couldn't sit comfortably with a party of 5.

Our waitress was horrible. We ordered cappucinos. Twenty minutes later she came to our table and told us that they got sent to another table and she asked us if we still wanted them. We said no, and then proceeded to wait another 20 minutes for our check (which came only after we requested it- and after we had finished dessert).

Drink orders were extremely slow at the beginning night as well. We waited at least 15 minutes for our mixed drinks to come out. The food came out quite slowly as well. We sat at 7:30 and finally got out of there at 11:15.

I'm usually quite forgiving of poor service, but this was my first time at Palena and the service was consistently poor all night. I might go back once more in a few months to see if it's different, but I might not.

And like I said, the food was very good, but I've had better at MANY restaurants in the area. Most meals were over-salted, but that didn't bother me as I like salty food (but the table complained). The fish all around was a bit over-cooked as well. I did like the creativity of the food, however... and the top quality ingredients.
