Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. My sister and I got to Palena Cafe yesterday at 6:00 and were promptly seated, no wait. Three tables were already filled and a few people were at the bar. We ordered the fries plate to share. I liked the potatoes Dauphinee the best and the fried lemons were interesting. We both ordered the famous chicken and the wait didn't seem that long. It is delicious, moist, savory almost with what tasted like five-spice. The bean side dish was a bit unusual and really didn't seem to go well with the chicken. We ordered the cookie plate to share for dessert with coffee. The maccaroons, the butter cookies and the caramels were awesome, melt in your mouth. Our waiter was attentive without hovering and at no time did he hurry us along, even when the place began to fill up. He didn't give us our check until we said no to a second round of coffee. When we left at 8:00 the Cafe and Bar section were packed but the restaurant in the back not even nearly so. I really enjoyed the dinner. Not sure I would make a point of going back but it was an enjoyable evening.
