I was forced to walk through city center on the way back from lunch by a coworker who wanted to see "what new and exciting resturants there are". Sigh. However, it turned out okay.
One semi-okay place, San Francisco Soup Company, took over where the McDonalds was. It didn't look amazing, but they did have some interesting *sounding* soups, and a good price for soup and 1/2 sandwich. I may try it, unless someone tells me it's dreadful.
But further north, I noticed weird signs saying "tacos" and the like at the location of the Oak Plaza Grill. It appears to now be a Palapas Taco Bar.
Many options looked pretty pedestrian, but they did have a good smelling tortilla soup, and ceviche is on the menu (!). The tacos that came by looked halfway between gringo tacos and authentic ones.
Probably not the most authentic place, but it has to beat La Salsa for "Mexican places I can take gringos to that I can stand". I'll try to go tomorrow or next week and will report back here.
