Had dinner last evening with a group of friends at Page One in Glen Cove, LI.We were celebrating the 50th anniversary of one couple. We had been there before and found it pleasant and the food, service and ambiance to be decent. However last night was a disaster. After being seated for 20 minutes we still had not seen a waitperson. We had made numerous attempts. When we finally were able to flag down a waiter, we were told he was waiting for the bar to make the iced tea. They could have gone to the market down the street and bought it faster than that. FInally after more attempts to place our order, my friend got up and spoke to the manager/slash owner. Again, "oh, I'm so sorry. Someone will be right with you." Eventually someone appeared and took the dinner orders. After a long wait our appetizers arrived... a no brainer, since we all had salads. The table was cleared for entrees while some of us were still consuming out appetizers. The waitperson/runner didn't know who got what and it was like who gets the salmon etc. After entrees were finished we were asked for beverage orders. I never got my herbal tea although I did get Tetley. Had I consumed that, I would have been ill. I am allergic to caffeine. But the best which I had to save for last. My husband ordered iced tea and the host ordered iced coffee. The tea was made from hot tea poured over a glass of ice.... UGH. But the host got a cup of hot coffee with melting ice cubes floating around. Needless to say, we all laughed. This was the first time in all my years that I had ever seen this. I don't think we will be going back. PS. I finally figured out the reason for the lack of service. They had a private party in a side room and didn't have the proper amount of staff. Wait people can't do double duty on a busy Saturday night.
