Always loved the bismarks and éclairs at Coffee Time and just finally went to try the Paczci and not thinking they could have anything better, just discovered the Zeppeles which are amazing! They are only usually made 2 days a year for St Josephs Day in March but due to popular demand he extended them but they will be gone by tomorrow..so run over now or make yourself a note for next year. Paczkis usually end Easter but since its early he will extend them til the end of April. He's a perfectionist with the baking and really nice and informative too. To describe.. Bismarks are light yeast donut with real whipped cream and fruit jam fillings, Paczki look like a donut cut in half and filled with fruit filling, whipped cream or both but taste less donutty and more similar,I think to a brioche or babka type of dough fried and the zeppele, are like a French cruller, a choux pastry which is fried instead of baked. They are filled with chocolate pastry cream or vanilla pastry cream with whipped cream and chocolate ganache on top, or with strawberry and cream cheese. The eclairs are the best anywhere and have that amazing ganache and custard and the zeppele is like the éclair on steroids. THe ganache is the flavor of really great homemade hot fudge and the custard is beautifully vanilla and egg flavored. All made by scratch. The zeppeles take special equipment and a process that he understandably cannot do year round.. I recall from years ago, the strawberry short cake being amazing too. Nice looking easter cakes and next time I try the NY style cheesecake.
