Since coming back from the Gulf Coast where I slurped several dozen, I've found my appetite for raw oysters has only increased to slightly less than ravenous.
We're in the midst of oyster season and I was wondering if there are any decent values to be had in central NJ for raw oysters? Up here in the NE, oysters are a much rarer commodity, or at least they grow a heck of a lot more slowly, hence they are typically 2x to 3x the price of Gulf Coast oysters. Expert tasters say it's all in the quality, yet I insist I had Gulf of Mexico oysters which in every way rival anything I've tasted from the North Atlantic. In any case, oysters in NJ typically are $2.50+ each and two dozen will set you back $60 and you haven't even eaten dinner yet! So any thoughts on more economical options?
