oyamel review

went to oyamel last night. had a mixed experience the ambience looks like it cost a fortune in sq.ft and very comfortable banquettes. the drinks at the bar were very good. try the dark puerto rican rum house specialty. the food was so-so. had the scallop ceviche very good. the sweetness of the scallops really came thru. was not over cooked by the acidity. had the oxtail tacos, the tortillas were good, needs to be hotter. the braised oxtail was blend. cronish hen w/ mole. the mole was very good. the bird and rice had no flavor, very blend. the relleno stuffed with raisins and goat cheese. way tooo sweet and had no discerning flavor. huevo w/ ham and peas was disgusting period. basically fried sunny side egg w/ small dice of polish ham and frozen peas. dragon fruit salad, some what good. had a clean effervescent finish.flank steak w/ tamarind was really tough and afain blend the sauce was def. way tooo acidic and tart. almost as if the kitchen opened a jar of tamarind paste and added hot water to it. the braised rabbit had flavor, surprise, surprise. it was seasoned nicely and was braised properly. all in all some what disappointed in the food aspect of the venture based on previous reports on this board. the environment, staff was pleasing. probably would not go back.
