...at El Taconazo on East Hillsborough Ave., a couple blocks from I-275, near Nebraska. It's nicknamed the taco bus, since the kitchen's in a converted school bus behind the main building. Had heard about this place for a while and finally checked it out today. The barbacoa was as good as any I''ve had in Mexico. Same for the lengua. The pork also was good, and the green salsa in plastic squeeze bottles on the tables had just the right kick. Colorfully painted outdoor tables under bamboo slatted awning, Mexican music in the air, mostly Mexican's chowing down. Only thing missing was some icy cerveza; soft drinks only. Anyway, the is the real deal, as good as the food at Mi Mexio on Armenia (a few blocks north of Tampa Bay Blvd., if you haven't been) though the menu's more limited - this is mainly a taco stand (the tacos are $1.25, with soft corn tortillas and the usual cilantro and onion), burritos, quesadillas, cerviche. If you think of Estella's or Miguel's or some other Americanized Mexican restaurant is good, you need to try t his place. My server didn't speak much English and I don't speak Spanish, so when I asked what the nazo in the restaurant's name meant, she smiled and stomped her feet. Translation, anyone?
